Gayo Azul adds to its
Hispanic cheese line
Hispanic cheese brand Gayo Azul now produces one
of the most popular Hispanic cheese varieties in the
category, with the introduction of its Queso Fresco.
Josh Rosen, brand manager
for FrieslandCampina Dairy North America-owned
Gayo Azul, noted the latest Hispanic cheese
product with Dutch influences joins the brand's
portfolio, which includes Cotija, Queso Blanco and
Queso Para Freir.
Rosen cited Circana research which found
that more than one-third of shoppers purchased
Hispanic cheese within a three-month period in
the second half of 2024, and that the category has
enjoyed more than 20% growth over the past two
years. He said the
Gayo Azul line is
enjoying strong
demand at retail.
The brand
described its Cotija
as a firm and
crumbly Mexican
aged cow's milk
cheese with a
sharp, slightly
salty flavor, which
complements enchiladas, tacos and street corn.
Gayo Azul said its Queso Blanco is a white cow's
milk cheese with a slightly salty and mild flavor. Its
young age creates a creamy yet crumbly texture
that holds its shape well, making it ideal for grilling.
The brand added that its Queso Para Freir is a
white cow's milk cheese with a slightly salty, mild
flavor, and is known for a higher melting point that
makes it a good option for frying, sandwiches and
baked dishes.
" The growth is driven by the expanding
popularity of Hispanic flavors and cooking styles, "
Rosen said. " We're always closely monitoring
market trends to anticipate consumer preferences.
Our focus is on offering high-quality Hispanic-style
cheeses that add authentic flavor and versatility to
everyday cooking and entertaining. "
Gayo Azul cheeses boast a firm texture and a
subtly salty, mild flavor profile, Rosen said, adding
that the blending of Hispanic and Dutch traditions
makes them unique.
V&V Supremo celebrates
60th anniversary
Authentic Mexican dairy and chorizo producer V&V
Supremo Foods, Inc. celebrated its 60th anniversary
this past year.
From humble beginnings in 1964 with just $500,
Gilberto Villaseñor, Sr. and Ignacio Villaseñor
crafted authentic Mexican cheeses and other
products, bringing " a taste of home to Chicago, " the
company said.
The founders' dedication to quality and tradition
transformed a small venture into a family-owned
business that now serves the entire United States.
Sixty years later, the tradition of quality and family
values continues, " bringing great memories through
great food, " with the legacy being carried on today
by Gilberto Villaseñor II and Philip Villaseñor, sons of
the original founders.
" Reaching this 60-year milestone is not just a
celebration of our past, but also a testament to the
enduring values of our family and our commitment
to producing the highest quality dairy products, " said
V&V Supremo chief vision officer Gilberto Villaseñor
II. " We are honored to continue the legacy that our
fathers started, maintaining the authenticity and
craftsmanship that have been the foundation of
our success. "
Said chief integrator Philip Villaseñor: " We are
incredibly proud to continue our family's legacy,
not just as a business, but as a representation of the
values and traditions we hold dear. Our commitment
to quality and authenticity has remained steadfast for
60 years, and we look forward to bringing the true
taste of Mexico to our customers for many more years
to come. "
