Flavored butters
Churn Foods, Culver City, Calif., was founded by Chef Michael Tashman,
who wanted to share his appreciation of flavored butters with home
cooks. The butters come in 5.5-oz tubs in nine flavors: black garlic,
bruschetta, cacio e pepe, everything, garlic shallot, maple cinnamon,
miso, pesto and truffle.
Butter snack spreads
Dublin, Calif.-based Challenge Dairy Products has found much success
with its Challenge Butter Snack Spreads. Made with real butter and no
artificial flavors, the spreads made their debut in early 2022 in three
dessert and three seasoned varieties: buffalo, chocolate, everything
seasoned, salted caramel, vanilla fudge, and garlic parmesan and herb.
A year later, the 112-year old dairy teamed up with Lawry's Seasoned
Salt, a brand owned by McCormick & Company, Hunt Valley, Md., to offer
consumers a " butter " way to enjoy Lawry's iconic Seasoning Salt on
their favorite foods. The company also has a new dessert flavor: lemon.
Aerosol cold foam
Aldi is taking Starbucks on with a cold foam copycat aerosol creamer.
Barissimo Coffee Barista Cold Foam comes in mocha fudge and sweet
vanilla flavors. The cans flag the use of real cream and claim to be
" coffee's new best friend. " Starbucks introduced its customers to cold
foam in 2018 and describe it as " frothed cold instead of hot by blending
nonfat milk until it is smooth, creating layers of creamy texture and
flavor without the cream. "
Non-dairy creamers
The Coffee Mate non-dairy creamer brand from Nestlé S.A., Vevey,
Switzerland, continues to get creative with flavors. Some recent entries
include co-branded varieties such as Kahlua & Crème and Rice Krispies
Treats. The Zero Sugar Cinnamon Roll option is described as being
" triple churned and 2x richer than milk. " Water, corn syrup and vegetable
oil are the first three ingredients. Sucralose and acesulfame potassium
enable the zero sugar claim.
Plant butters
Naturli' Foods A/S of Denmark, is introducing Americans to its
European-style plant butters made from canola, cocoa butter, coconut
and almond. The spread is designed for toast, while the block is ideal for
baking, according to the company. The vegan product made its debut in
July at H-E-B stores across Texas.
Seasoned butters
Private-label retailer Aldi, Batavia, Ill., has two new Specially Selected
seasoned butters in lemon herb and garlic parmesan flavors. They come
in 3-oz clear plastic containers to showcase the flavorful particulates and
sell for $2.35.
