Sartori's Old World Cheddar
picks up award
Sartori Cheese's Old World Cheddar received the honor of
best cheddar cheese from the taste testers who chose the
winners for the PEOPLE 2022 Food Awards.
The company describes its Italian cheddar as having a
sharp flavor that also is savory and buttery.
When PEOPLE published this year's list of the " most
delicious new foods in the grocery store, " it noted the
cheese's creamy texture and shared that one tester said,
" It melts like a dream. "
" Our team puts so much work into every cheese we
make, " said Pam Hodgson, master cheesemaker at Sartori
Cheese. " Our Old World Cheddar was no exception.
Seeing this cheese highlighted in such an established
publication is a huge honor for our local family farms and
Sartori team members. "
The Old World Cheddar and other Sartori cheeses are
available at US grocery stores, as well as online at the
Sartori website.
Consider Bardwell Farm makes
Dorset available for retail
Small batch cheesemaker Consider Bardwell Farm
announced it is making its Dorset cheese available for sale
to cheese shops and other retailers.
The pasteurized, soft-ripened, washed-rind cow's milk
Dorset will be sold as a 2.5-lb wheel of cheese.
Dorset is one of the featured products from the
Vermont-based company. Consider Bardwell Farm
shared that its Dorset is reminiscent of a Taleggio or
Pont L'Évêque. Made with fresh cow's milk from nearby
Woodlawn Farm, the cheese is cave-aged for at least 45
days, during which the cheesemakers
give it a light wash every three to four
days as part of the ripening process.
" When our neighboring farmer
asked us to take some excess
milk in the spring, we made our
original 2.5-lb Dorset as a oneoff,
limited edition product, " said
Angela Miller, co-owner of Consider
Bardwell Farm. " However, after the
overwhelmingly positive response we
received over the course of three months, we decided to
continue to make the cheese on an ongoing basis. "
Consider Bardwell sells its cheeses through its website.
Wisconsin companies
rack up awards
Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin highlighted the
achievements of the state's cheesemakers at
the 2022 World Dairy Expo Championship
Dairy Product Contest, where producers
from the state won 84 awards in total.
Judging for this year's contest took place
from Aug. 23-25 at MATC Culinary Arts
School in Madison, Wis.
" Thanks to this state's great dairy heritage
and more than 180 years of cheesemaking,
Wisconsin continually achieves high honors
for dairy products, showcasing traditional
methods mixed with new innovations, " said
Suzanne Fanning, chief marketing officer,
Wisconsin Cheese, and senior vice president,
Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin.
