The US ice cream market, which includes dairy and non-dairy frozen treats in multi-serve and single-serve novelty
formats, will reach a little over $19 billion in 2024, according to research from Mordor Intelligence. It is expected
to reach $21.8 billion by 2029, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 2.72% during the forecast period
(2024-2029). Mordor estimates that almost 94% of all " ice cream " sales take place through retail, with the rest via
foodservice. This estimate complements Circana's multi-outlet data-plus universe, which showed US retail multi-serve
packaged " ice cream " sales at $7.8 billion for the 52 weeks ending March 31, 2024, and novelties at $7.7 billion. Dollar
sales were up for each (4% and 1.6%, respectively), while units were down (1.5% and 1.2%, respectively).
Soft-serve milkshake
Fanci Freez, a restaurant brand with locations in Idaho, is taking its
popular milkshakes from local acclaim to a product positioned for
national distribution. Patent-pending technology was required to
accomplish bringing a soft-serve milkshake product to the grocery aisle.
This allows consumers to enjoy a milkshake at home after just 30 seconds
in the microwave. Varieties are chocolate, mint chocolate and strawberry.
Nostalgic flavors
Akron, NY-based Perry's Ice Cream debuted a number of new ice
cream flavors that speak to the trend in nostalgia, while offering a
modern interpretation. Cookie Jar, for example, is sea salt caramel ice
cream with chocolate chip cookie chunks. Over the Moon features
toffee ice cream with crushed cookie swirls and sponge candy pieces.
Exclusive for scoop shops is Bee Sting, a variety that offers a twist to
graham cracker and vanilla pudding flavors by adding a " sting " with a
hot honey swirl.
Ice cream bars
Häagen-Dazs, Minneapolis, expanded its snack portfolio with two
new ice cream bars: Dulce De Leche (dulce de leche ice cream with
swirls of dulce de leche sauce coated in milk chocolate) and Chocolate
Cookie Crumble (sweet cream ice cream with a touch of Madagascar
vanilla and fudge swirls dipped in milk chocolate with chocolate cookie
pieces). The individually wrapped bars come in boxes of three.
