Flavored gouda
Natural cheeses are probably the last dairy category to enter the
limited-edition offering trend. But they have arrived. FrieslandCampina,
Paramus, NJ, for example, is offering its Royal Hollandia gouda in three
varieties: black garlic, garden herb and walnut.
Single-serve burrata
Belgioioso Cheese, Denmark, Wis., now offers single balls of burrata -
fresh mozzarella filled with shreds of mozzarella soaked in cream - in a
4-ounce cup of brine.
Protein puffs
In Good Hands Foods, an incubator brand from California Dairies Inc.,
Visalia, Calif., made its debut this winter with the rollout of Protein
Puffs in nacho and white cheddar flavors. Made with Real California
Milk, and sporting the seal, one serving delivers 12 grams of milk
protein and only 1 gram of sugar, which is flagged on the front label of
the 1.1-oz bags, available individually and in boxes of 12.
Cheeses for entertaining
Emmi Roth, Fitchburg, Wis., has launched new cheeses under several of
its popular brands, each developed with entertaining top of mind. New
Roth Havarti varieties include French onion and tomato basil. Under the
Emmi brand, a beer variety of its heat-and-serve fondue-in-a-box joins
the highly successful original option. The fuss-free fondue is made in
Switzerland. It is designed to melt to perfection in 15 minutes.
Marinated goat cheese
Historically selling fresh cheese in a liquid solution is not common
in the US. In recent years, marinated goat cheese has been gaining
traction. Chevoo, Healdsburg, Calif., for example, offers olive oilmarinated
goat cheese cubes. Herbs de Provence is its newest
offering, joining Aleppo-Urfa Pepper and Lemon, California Dill Pollen
and Garlic, Italian Black Truffle, Tupelo Honey and Lime, and Smoked
Sea Salt and Rosemary.
Cheese spreads
Despite having a bad reputation in the past, cheese spreads are
having a moment as brands focus on quality and premiumization
in their development. DeLallo, Mount Pleasant, Penn., is rolling out
three flavorful cheese spreads. Jalapeño Artichoke features marinated
artichokes and hot jalapeño peppers in a whipped blend of sweet
cream cheese and sharp aged white cheddar. Pepperazzi Pepper
is a sweet and spicy cream cheese dip made with tangy-sweet
peppadew peppers along with red-hot jalapeño peppers. ThreeCheese
Pepperoncini features briny, spicy Greek pepperoncini peppers
in a blend of feta, blue cheese and cream cheese. The perishable dips
come in 7-oz containers and may be served cold or hot.
