Frozen dessert bars
This past summer, Alden's Organic, Eugene, Ore., launched a
collection of frozen dessert bars inspired by classic beverages. Two of
them-Strawberry Lemonade and Horchata-are non-dairy options.
Vegan ranch dressing
The Only Plant Based! brand, which was co-developed in the United
States and Northern Ireland, started with a vegan mayo. The brand
now includes vegan ranch dressing and a sour cream alternative.
Cream cheese alternatives
The company that introduced the world to Tofurky (vegan turkey) is
now in the dairy department with Moocho cream cheese alternatives.
Turtle Island Foods, Hood River, Ore., debuted the product earlier
this year in three varieties: garden vegetable, plain and strawberry.
Dairy-free yogurt
General Mills, Minneapolis, has found much success with its Oui by
Yoplait line of yogurt and dairy desserts in little glass jars. When the
brand brought back its limited-edition fall flavors, it added Dairy Free
Pumpkin Caramel to the lineup. The non-dairy option is priced at a
premium ($1.99) as compared to the dairy versions ($1.49).
Vegan probiotic beverages
Morton Grove, Ill.-based Lifeway Foods Inc., is rolling out Lifeway
Oat. This certified vegan perishable beverage offers consumers
probiotic benefits to help support a healthy gut and immunity. Each
Lifeway Oat product is organic, gluten free, made with 100% whole
grain oats and contains heart-healthy beta-glucans plus 10 live and
active probiotic cultures to help promote a balanced and diverse
microbiome. The Lifeway Oat line comes in apple cinnamon, berries
and cream, blueberry maple, peaches and cream, plain, strawberry
vanilla and vanilla flavors.
Plant-based milk
White Plains, NY-based Danone North America claims it created
plant-based milk that doesn't taste like plants. This was accomplished
by deconstructing dairy milk and then recreating the sensory
attributes by blending a mix of familiar, high-quality plant-based
ingredients. The result is a new plant-based dairy-like segment of
plant-based products that don't taste like any specific plant-based
ingredient, such as almond, oat, soy, etc. Silk Nextmilk and So
Delicious Wondermilk are both scheduled to launch in January 2022.
Both brands will have whole-fat and reduced-fat options.
